Keegan Brown. Peter Wright. Krzysztof Ratajski. James Wade. Gordon Mathers. You get some nice infos in their about the player and the darts.
But if you read carefully the text in the last pic, you might notice an interesting info. First that date is in the future and second he got beaten in the edition of the PDC worlds by Rob Cross in the first round.
So his debut was in and not So I guess it is a typo. This is the second most expensive set, that Unicorn sells at the moment, only the Noir version of these darts is more expensive, if I remember correctly.
Should these mistakes really happen? I mean, yeah it is just a small thing, just a tiny little typo, but it just kind of devalues the whole thing. After the launch Edward Lowy said this about the new deluxe packaging "the presentation of the darts showing appropriate respect to the player.
I think this is part of the problem, why people on the forum, often kind of laugh a bit about new stuff from Unicorn. Ambition and reality just doesn't always fit together.
I know, people already think, that I don't like Unicorn and moaning about one typo might not make it better, but I am just sorry, these kind of mistakes are just annoying in my opinion.
Premium prices are maybe okay, if everything is perfect. It is not in this case, no matter how small the mistake is. So enough about the packaging and the typo.
The darts are My measurements have them drilled out I will not post the exact weights as the points have been changed and they have been used before weighing, but I can say, that there was no problem at all with the weightmatch and all was good.
So quality in both parts is fine. Nothing to complain about. Balance is in the middle in my opinion a bit moved towards the front, but I don't know what the original points in them are.
So my pic only shows the balance with 32mm firepoints. I think now is the time to move on to the grip.
First a detail pic of the barrel. Click on pic to maximize it The grip is a classic ring grip with multiple vertical cuts on each ring.
Griplevel: 6 out of 10 But I am not sure, how much is done by the vertical cuts on the rings. It is a good grip, but it just does not feel really special to me.
I have previously compared the grip on them to the grip of the Winmau Aspria's. There are differences in the grip, as you can see yourself, but I would say, that in terms of the machining, both sets seem to take at least a similar amount of work.
I would say, that the grip on the Asada's is a bit more grippy, but both grips are nice and in the end it is personal preference, which you will like better.
So there is nothing else I could describe about the darts, which means I can come to my conclusion. The Unicorn Asada's are a good set of darts. They are flying nicely for me.
The balance feels good, the dimensions are right for me. The grip is good as I mentioned. Because they are not close to beeing worth it in my eyes.
It is just my opinion, I have no idea about the real costs for this set, but as a collector and amateur player I just can't see the value for me.
I know, that the deluxe packaging is a bit pricey and that these are a signature set and that they are probably more aimed at the japanese market, where expensive darts are more the norm, but at the end of the day, that does not matter to any of us.
At the end of the day, we look at the barrels and their design and what they offer to us as players and than make a judgement about the price and here the Asada's fail.
The barrel is actually very simple, when you ignore the vertical cuts on the rings. And for me the vertical cuts are not innovative or special enough, that I would say, they are worth a lot of money to me.
It is not a case of a new and innovatie grip like the trapezoidal grip from Target, that has its own feel. The grip on the Asada's feels too similar to normal ring grip.
And if I compare the Asada's to the Aspria's from Winmau it does not get better. Too me as a simple fan and player, the machining it takes for the grip styles seems similar on both sets.
The Aspria's got a black coating, the Asada's are natural tungsten. The Asada's might be a signature set and come in a better packaging, but that is the only reason I see for the higher price.
I don't want to critizise Unicorn for the price, they will have their reasons for it. But the value is just not their in this set.
